Established in 2001, TUAJO, a 501© 3 tax-exempt nonprofit organization, was formed to utilize the arts, culture, education, and entertainment as a tool to address the harsh issues confronting youth, community, and environment throughout urban centers globally.
Our immediate agenda is addressing the harsh issues confronting urban youth and community within the Greater Newark, N.J. Metropolitan Area and New Jersey urban centers. Our focus is on preventative solutions to curb crime and violence, address poverty, racial inequality, public health and safety, the environmental and social dilemmas adversely impacting urban centers. We strive to transform lives leading to more peaceful and vibrant communities.
Our cultural and educational programs, events, and activities are aimed to uplift urban youth and, consequently, mainstream society as a whole. Our initiatives provide platforms to steer youth and communities away from deviant behavior and into constructive outlets and activities. The design and implementation of arts, music, educational and cultural programming are to provide creative forms of expression to motivate and inspire, enhancing self-esteem, creative expression, and leadership development. Our primary focus is to pool resources within hip-hop culture, music, the arts, history, the environment, broadcasting, and entertainment as a means to utilize art forms for cultural and intellectual enrichment for disadvantaged youth and marginalize communities at large.
TUAJO strives to take the forefront in the newly instituted STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) initiatives for educating our youth and revitalizing our communities. We look to strategize with municipalities, public school districts, educational institutions, arts institutions, media, State, federal and corporate entities in such initiatives.
Cultural Healing and Preservation
We promote the cultural, historical and spiritual wisdom of hip-hop as a tool for empowering youth and communities.
Hip Hop music and culture sprouted its birth out of the concrete and turmoil of South Bronx, New York and American urban communities nearly a half century ago. Through its art forms, it provided spirit and enthusiasm and served as a vehicle to unify the community. It provided outlets for artistic, creative expression and settings for peaceful gatherings, while unifying turbulent, diverse communities. Now, in 2023, Hip-Hop celebrates its 50th anniversary as an American music cultural art form. Hip-Hop culture has assimilated into societies worldwide. Hip-Hop art forms have impacted cultures and economics globally through music, dance, art, theater, fashion, advertising, media, film, etc. Hip-Hop, now approaching fourth-generation, is a multibillion-dollar , multicultural industry. Consistent with its origins, Hip-Hop culture continues to unite people of all ages, races, genders, religions, and economic status.
